Marin County Classic Car Buyer

Marin County Classic Car Buyer

A Direct Way to Sell Your Classic Car in Marin County

Marin County has no shortage of well-kept, long-owned vehicles. If you have a classic car stored in a garage in San Rafael, Mill Valley, Novato or anywhere nearby, and you’re considering selling, I offer a straightforward way to do it.
I’m Bill Neff, owner of Old Town Classics. I’ve been a licensed California dealer since 1987, buying classic European, American and Japanese cars directly from private owners. I’m not a broker and I don’t operate on consignment. When we meet, you’re dealing with the person who evaluates the car, makes the offer and completes the paperwork.
If your vehicle fits what I purchase, I’ll travel to your Marin County location, inspect it in person and handle the title transfer during the same visit.
To start the conversation, call (619) 540-4637 or submit the contact form with a few details about the car.

Why Many Marin Owners Prefer a Direct Buyer

Classic cars in Marin County are often long-term possessions. Some have been in the same household for decades. Others are part of an estate or tied to a recent move. In those situations, most owners are not interested in advertising the car publicly or coordinating multiple showings.

Working directly with a licensed dealer offers:

    • One-on-one communication
    • A single in-person inspection
    • Clear explanation of value
    • Paperwork handled during the meeting
    • No auction timelines
    • No consignment agreements

You avoid listing fees, ongoing negotiations and the uncertainty of waiting for a buyer to appear. If we move forward, it is handled privately and professionally.

    My Buying Process

Every transaction begins with a conversation.

    1. Initial Contact

You provide the year, make, model and general condition. A few photos are helpful but not required.

    2. On-Site Inspection

If the car aligns with what I purchase, we schedule a visit at your Marin County location. I travel to private homes, garages, storage units and estate properties.

    3. Evaluation and Explanation

During the inspection, I look at overall condition, originality, documentation, storage history and current market demand. I explain how I’m viewing the car, so you understand how the offer is determined.

    4. Completion of Sale

If we agree on terms and the paperwork is available, I complete the bill of sale, title transfer and release of liability during the meeting. Most transactions are completed in one visit.

This is a face-to-face transaction handled directly and without unnecessary complications.

Types of Classic Cars I Purchase

Marin County tends to have carefully stored vehicles that were not daily drivers. Those are typically the cars I focus on.

    European Classics

    • Mercedes-Benz (SL, S-Class, coupes and sedans)
    • Porsche (356, early 911/912, 914 and air-cooled models)
    • Jaguar, BMW, Volvo, Saab and Volkswagen Karmann Ghia

    American Classics and Muscle

    • Ford Mustang
    • Chevrolet Camaro, Chevelle and Corvette
    • Cadillac models from the 1950s–1970s
    • Vintage Ford and Chevrolet trucks

    Vintage Japanese Cars

    • Toyota Celica, Supra and Land Cruiser
    • Datsun/Nissan Z-cars and 510
    • Early Honda and other collector-grade imports

I’m especially interested in vehicles that are:

    • Garage-kept
    • Owned long term
    • Part of an estate or trust
    • Driven sparingly in recent years
    • Largely original

Surface wear alone does not disqualify a car. Storage history, structural integrity and completeness matter more than minor cosmetic flaws.

Areas of Marin County I Serve

I travel throughout Marin County, including:

    • San Rafael
    • Mill Valley
    • Novato
    • Corte Madera
    • Larkspur
    • Tiburon
    • Sausalito
    • Fairfax
    • Ross
    • Kentfield

If your vehicle is elsewhere in Marin or the surrounding North Bay region, you’re welcome to reach out. I routinely travel throughout California for the right vehicles.

Estate and Transition Sales in Marin County

A significant number of classic cars I purchase are tied to life transitions:

    • Estate settlements
    • Probate situations
    • Trust distributions
    • Downsizing
    • Property sales
    • Long-term storage

If you are managing a vehicle on behalf of a family member, client or estate, I can coordinate directly with executors, trustees or attorneys. As long as the necessary documentation is in place, I handle the transfer properly and professionally.

You do not need to detail or service the car before contacting me. I prefer to see it as it sits.

    Common Questions

Do you buy cars that have not been driven recently?

Yes. Many classic cars I purchase have been stored for extended periods. Overall condition and completeness are more important than recent use.

Are you a broker or consignment dealer?

No. I am a direct buyer. I purchase vehicles for my inventory.

    How is the offer determined?

I consider model, year, condition, originality, documentation and current market demand. I explain the evaluation during the inspection so you understand the reasoning.

Can everything be completed in one meeting?

In most cases, yes. If the title and required documents are available and we agree on terms, the transaction is handled during our visit.

What if I’m still deciding whether to sell?

An initial conversation does not commit you to anything. Many owners simply want clarity before making a final decision.
