Karmann Ghia Buyer California

California-Based Buyer for VW Karmann Ghias

Sell Your Karmann Ghia Directly to a Serious Collector

Classic VW Ghias have a personality all their own and when one comes up for sale, it deserves the right kind of attention. If you have a Karmann with history, design character or just solid preservation, I’m interested. I’ve been collecting and buying classic VWs across California for over 35 years, with a strong passion for the Karmann Ghia in particular.
Some Ghias have lived on the road, others in long-term storage – both can still be valuable. If your car has character, history, or originality, I’m interested. I offer direct, pressure-free experience without the need for auctions, consignment or public listings. Just an honest conversation with someone who appreciates these cars and knows their value.
Call me at (619) 540-4637 or use the form to get in touch.

Meet the Buyer, Bill Neff of Old Town Classics

For over 35 years, I’ve been buying and collecting vintage Volkswagens – with a special appreciation for the design and charm of the Karmann Ghia. I’m not a large dealership or auction platform. I’m a licensed California buyer who works one-on-one with owners to preserve and rehome classic vehicles the right way. From early low-light coupes to solid drivers, I’ve helped hundreds of sellers part with their vintage vehicles with clarity and respect.

What Makes Old Town Classics the Right Fit for Selling Your VW Karmann

Here’s what makes the selling experience different with me:

    Decades of VW Experience

I understand early and late model Ghias, unique trim combinations and subtle details that affect value.

    Private, One-on-One Transactions

No public listings, no dealer games. You deal with me directly from start to finish.

    I Travel to You

I inspect and buy cars on-site across California. You won’t have to trailer or prep your car.

    Clear, Fair Pricing

Each offer reflects the car’s condition, rarity and market trends – not lowball tactics.

    DMV Paperwork Done for You

I’ll manage the title transfer, release of liability and bill of sale.

    No Obligation, No Pressure

We can simply talk. You’re under no pressure to sell.

    Passion for Preservation

I don’t just buy to flip. Many vehicles I purchase end up with collectors or in careful restorations.

    Attention to Details That Matter

I look for originality, factory options and honest cars – not just shiny paint. Your car gets evaluated with care.

    Discreet and Professional

No public ads, no strangers visiting your garage. Just a licensed buyer showing up with experience and respect.

We can simply talk. You’re under no pressure to sell.

    Karmann Ghias I’m Currently Buying

If you have one of the following models or conditions, I’m especially interested:

    • 1956–1974 Volkswagen Karmann Ghias (coupes or convertibles)
    • Early low-light models (1956–1959)
    • One-owner or long-term family cars
    • Garage-kept classics with original paint or interiors
    • Well-maintained drivers or lightly restored cars
    • Barn finds or cars that have been off the road for years
    • Cars with factory options like pop-out windows, EMPI accessories, or rare color codes
    • Inherited or estate vehicles

If your Ghia has character and a story, even if it needs light work – I’d like to learn more.

Buying Karmann Ghias Wherever They’re Stored in California

Many sellers aren’t sure how to move forward, especially if the car has sat untouched for years. That’s where I come in. No matter if your Ghia is sitting under a cover or tucked into a quiet corner of the property, I’ll show up prepared to evaluate it and make the process easy.

I regularly buy VW Ghias throughout California, including:

    • San Diego
    • Orange County
    • Los Angeles
    • Riverside & Inland Empire
    • Santa Barbara & Ventura
    • San Luis Obispo & Central Coast
    • Fresno, Bakersfield & the Central Valley
    • San Jose, Oakland, San Francisco
    • Sacramento & surrounding regions

    Questions Sellers Often Ask Me

My Ghia has original paint but lots of patina, is that a problem?

Not at all. Honest wear is often preferred over questionable restorations. If it tells a story, I want to see it.

The car was parked decades ago – no service records, no keys. Should I still reach out?

Yes. As long as it’s mostly intact, I’ll evaluate it. Lack of paperwork or keys isn’t a dealbreaker.

What’s more valuable, a rare factory color or a high-option interior?

Depends on the model year, but both can add to the value. Original color codes, dash layout and upholstery combinations all contribute.

How do you evaluate pricing if the car doesn’t run?

I assess body condition, completeness, originality and what it would take to get it back on the road. You’ll still get a thoughtful, fair offer.

Do you deal with sellers outside major cities?

Yes. Rural areas, small towns or homes off the main roads – I’ve traveled all over California to meet VW Karmann owners.

The VIN plate is missing or partially damaged. Can you still evaluate the car?

I can. Missing tags or partial data can sometimes be cross-referenced with stamped locations or other identifiers. It’s common with older vehicles.

I started restoration but didn’t finish. Is a partially disassembled Ghia something you consider?

Possibly. If most parts are still with the car and it’s not a complete teardown, I’ll take a look and give you an honest assessment.

I’ve owned this Ghia since the ’70s, but it hasn’t left the garage in decades. Does long-term ownership help?

Yes. Original ownership or long-term family history can increase value and buyer interest, even if the car hasn’t moved in years.

Ready to Pass Along Your Karmann Ghia?

Selling a Karmann Ghia is passing along something rare and often personal. Some cars are untouched survivors, others are halfway through a project – either way, I treat every car and its story with respect and attention. I’ve seen VW Ghias that haven’t run since the ’80s still find great second lives. If you’ve been holding onto one and wondering who might actually appreciate it, let’s connect.

Call me directly at (619) 540-4637 or submit your information using the contact form. I’ll listen, answer your questions honestly, and handle the process with professionalism.
